This is my free pattern for how to make an amigurumi Coffee Cup! It’s the same size as a regular coffee cup and there’s lots of scope for you to decorate it however you want. This pattern is a great introduction to amigurumi techniques and it is suitable for a beginner crocheter.

This pattern is tech edited and tested.

Coffee Cup – Free Crochet Pattern

Information

Yarn: Any Worsted Weight Yarn. I used Aran Fleck yarn.

Hook Size: 4mm/G-6 US

Other Materials: Yarn needle, stitch marker, stuffing, brown felt, 7cm diameter circle of thin cardboard, glue gun or needle and thread, scissors, ruler

Skill Level: Easy

Finished measurements: 4.5” height, 3.7” width.

Gauge: 16 sc stitches to 16 rows = 4”

Abbreviations: Ch(s) = chain(s), Sc = single crochet, RS = right side, rep = repeat, sl st inv dec = slip stitch invisible decrease, sc2tog = single crochet two together

Notes

This pattern is written in US terminology.

Beginning ch-1 does not count as a st, unless noted.

The number in brackets at the end of each round [i.e. (6 sc)] is the number of stitches you have made.

Use stitch marker at the end of each round, moving up as you work to mark your place.

This Coffee Cup is crocheted in two parts.

How to make the Coffee Cup

Round 1: Make a magic ring, ch 1, 8 sc in ring, place marker in last st (8 sc)

Round 2: 2 sc in each around (16 sc)

Round 3: *Sc in next, 2 sc in next; rep from* around (24 sc)

Round 4: *Sc in next 2, 2 sc in next; rep from* around (32 sc)

Round 5: *Sc in next 3, 2 sc in next; rep from* around (40 sc)

Round 6: Sc in each around. (40 sc)

Round 7: *Sc in next 9, skip 1 st; rep from* around (36 sc)

Rounds 8-23: Sc in each around. (36 sc)

Round 24: *Sc in next 8, skip 1 st; rep from* around (32 sc)

Rounds 25-27: Sc in each around. (32 sc)

Round 28: *Sc in next 2, sc2tog; rep from* around (24 sc)

Place cardboard circle in bottom of cup, stuff cup leaving 1” at top.

Round 29: Sc in each around. (24 sc)

Round 30: *Sc in next, sc2tog; rep from* around (16 sc)

Finish stuffing cup, turn top inwards to form cup shape.

Round 31: *Sc2tog; rep from* around (8 sc)

Round 32: Sl st in same st, sl st inv dec 2 times, sl st in next, skip 2, join (4 sl st)

Fasten off, weave in ends, fold top into cup shape.

How to make the Handle

Row 1 (RS): Ch 20, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, turn (19 sc)

Rows 2-4: Sc in each across, ch 1, turn.

Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.

Using long tail, with RS facing, sew long sides together into tube. Attach Handle to side of Cup and shape.

Weave in ends.

Add circle of brown felt either glued or sewn to inside of Cup to look like coffee.
